Sticky Solutions From J-B Weld

More Sticky Solutions From J-B Weld Adhesives

J-B Weld made its name from developing its famous “cold welding” product and has recently developed a unique adhesive that works with metals in extremely hot areas.

Simply called Extreme Heat, the new adhesive is formulated to allow repairs to Iron, Steel and Metal in extremely high temperature environments, up to 1300-degreesC.

Extreme Heat is one of four new J-B Weld products being introduced to the New Zealand market by its local distributor, Griffiths Equipment. The others are; Super Weld, Plastic Bonder and J-B Original.

Since its introduction to New Zealand, the US-made J-B Weld family of high-tech epoxy adhesives, bonding and filling products has grown to become a firm favourite with consumers and tradespeople in this market.

Sold as a premium product, J-B Weld epoxy products claim to have the strongest bonding action in each class. Such strength makes them suitable for permanent repairs whereas the majority of competitor products only offer temporary repairs.

Of the latest products to join the J-B Weld line-up, Extreme Heat is one that will grab the attention of many automotive enthusiasts and those in the auto trade, as well as handymen and tradespeople.

Tim Paterson, the National Sales Manager for Griffiths Equipment, says: “Trying to bond metals that are subject to very high heat is a major challenge.”
“Ordinary adhesives break down when temperature’s too high so you need a product that is designed to perform in that environment. J-B Weld’s Extreme Heat has been developed specifically for such extremes.”

Extreme Heat is a single part organic repair paste that sets in one hour and dries to machine grey, and is functionally cured in 24 hours. It is actually water-based, non-flammable and contains no solvents or Volatile Organic Compounds, so it’s safe to handle.

When fully cured it become like the metal parts it is bonding and can be drilled, machined or sanded. It is ideal for repairing cracks, small gaps, seam connections or holes in exhaust manifolds, pipe connections, mufflers, catalytic converters, engine blocks, outdoor grilles, fire boxes, gas and commercial furnaces and water heaters. It comes in a small screw-top container that holds 85 grams (3 ounces).

Meanwhile, the new Super Weld product is J-B Weld’s take on the popular Super Glue. It is classified as a high strength super glue that bonds in seconds using a minimal quantity. Its being described as ‘Super Glue on Steroids’ by JB Weld.

Super Weld is great for projects or repairs on auto accessories, rubber, plastic, vinyl, leather, cloth and a range of other materials. Available in a traditional tube or with a brush-on cap for a no drip, no mess application.

The J-B Weld Plastic Bonder, as its name suggests, is designed to bond various types of plastics. It’s a quick-setting two-part urethane adhesive that provides a strong and lasting repair on thermo-plastics, thermo-set and carbon fibre composites, and it will even bond them to other materials, such as coated metals, concrete etc and fill gaps. Plastic Bonder has a tensile strength of 3770psi, which provides a strong, permanent bond within 15 minutes and sets to a black colour.

The last of the new products is called J-B Weld Original J-B Weld. This is the original Cold Weld formulae which is now available in a syringe for ease of use. The air-tight syringe cap can only be fitted one way and the result is a product that can be used again and again, over a long period of time without drying out or creating a mess.

Mr Paterson says J-B Weld Original is great for very high strength repairs and comes in a 25ml tube with a replaceable cap that won’t leak or dry out.
