Projecta Introduces The Ultimate Professional Jumpstarter

A revolutionary, lightweight professional jumpstarter developed by Projecta does away with the need for traditional recharging and it can be ready to start another vehicle just 40 seconds after use.

The Projecta ‘Intelli-Start’ 1500A 12V Professional Lithium Jumpstarter (IS1500) is aimed at the motor industry and trade customers.

Equipped with patented Rapid Recharge Technology (RRT), the IS1500 recharges itself directly from a started vehicle, recovering 100% of its charge after staying connected for just 40 seconds.

“Jumpstarters that can be used to start multiple vehicles have traditionally been large and heavy to lumber around a car yard or workshop, but the new Intelli-Start IS1500 is much more compact, lighter and easier to carry around, weighing just 4kg,” says Tim Paterson, National Sales Manager for Griffiths Equipment Limited, which distributes Projecta advanced automotive battery systems in New Zealand.

The Rapid Charge Technology makes use of a lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery as the power source for the jumpstarter, which enables the IS1500 to accept a charge from the vehicle alternator – typically a much higher current compared with other lithium battery and conventional lead-acid batteries. A proprietary algorithm is employed to ensure the battery is not overcharged at both cell and whole battery level.

Using this technology enables it to safely absorb a charge much faster than other battery types and it is specifically designed to allow the current to flow in both directions.

The IS1500 is the first product in the Projecta range to utilise this technology and, as a result, it does not need to be charged via 240V during the working day, although it should still be charged via the docking station between work days. This will increase the battery life by 10–20%.

The person using the IS1500 doesn’t need to do anything once the jumpstarter has been fitted to the vehicle and activated, as the RRT automatically engages when sufficient current is detected in the vehicle’s battery. Once the vehicle has been started, the jumpstarter battery will immediately begin drawing power directly from the alternator (provided the alternator is fully functioning).

Mr Paterson says the Projecta Intelli-Start Jumpstarter IS1500 would suit a wide range of motor trade users, including car dealerships, recovery services providers, automotive workshops, panel repair shops, automotive auction houses and vehicle distributors.

Providing 1500A peak amps and 700A clamp power, the unit is capable of starting diesel engines with up to 6-litres capacity and petrol engines up to 8-litres in size, making it suitable for motorcycle, passenger car, four wheel drive, light truck and also marine applications.

It also offers unparalleled safety features to keep users from harm, including built-in protection from:

• Surge, over-voltage, under-voltage, over-current
• Over-cranking, short-circuit, reverse polarity (with alarm)
• Battery/switch over-temperature, and
• Battery cell balancing and low voltage indicator.
